My story

As a kid of the ’80s, I got to grow up in a household with an AMIGA-1200, and that would lead to a life-long passion for Informational Technology, not only did I grow a passion for technology, but I also got to follow the development over the years from when it was considered a luxury to let alone have a PC in the household, but also being introduced to the internet. Fast forward to my teen years, I wanted to pursue a career in IT but was discouraged by just about every adult in my life from student counselors to teachers to let up my dream, as they told me that there would be no future in IT (Thanks a lot..) — So I was persuaded and discouraged.

Many obstacles in my private life leading up to 2022 did not allow me to pursue my lifelong dream and passion, but now I am at the crossroads, and I decided to finally start embarking on my personal journey trying to break into a career in cybersecurity by going the self-taught route.

The road ahead

In an ideal world, I would go the “traditional” way by going to college and get a BSc in Computer Science or BSc in Cybersecurity, but it is not financially viable, so I have to go the self-taught route as I try to “crack” the code to make the career-change happen.

I spend up to 10 hours daily, if not more, to research and try to create a tailor-made curriculum as close to what’s being taught in colleges to cover subjects and lay a solid foundation to build upon in the future.

So far I have been studying and taking a lot of certifications on Coursera, EduX, and Scrimba like the Google IT Support certification, IBM Cybersecurity Fundamentals certification, and CS50 Computer Science introductory course offered by Havard University.

It can be pretty difficult filtering through all of the content out there, as there are many claims on how you can “easily” break into a tech career within a small amount of time, but they are most likely selling “snake oil.”

If you’re interested in the curriculum that I intend to follow, and which certifications I want to pursue in the future, then please leave a comment!
